of The Magoo Room Cats who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge

Even though many of the cats we take in have existing health issues, it is never easy to say goodbye. Below are the cats that found their way to The Magoo Room before crossing the Rainbow Bridge. Click on each of their photos to expand image and to read a short summary of their story.

Alley

Alley came to The Magoo Room when a former sponsor became ill with cancer and could no longer care for her. Alley was euthanized on September 9, 2016. Cancer took her also.

Bella

Bella came to The Magoo Room in June, 2004, and was euthanized at the age of 19, in January 2017, when she stopped eating.

Buffy

On February 26, 2009, we brought Buffy (at a hefty weight of 22 pounds) home to The Magoo Room from a wonderful facility in Richmond, Virginia. Through a special diet, Buffy got down to a reasonable weight but had to be euthanized on March 10, 2015 because of IBD or cancer of the intestines.

CJ came to us in 2004 as a seven-year-old cat who was blind, deaf, and had chronic rhinitis so he was really in his own little world. We were able to enrich his life in small ways before he succumbed to kidney failure in 2006.

D'Artangan

D’Artangan came to The Magoo Room at the age of 16, and had hypothyroidism. He took his medicine very well, but when his appetite declined significantly, he was euthanized on August 31, 2010.

Dewey

Dewey joined The Magoo Room kitties in 2015, but had to be euthanized within a month due to a brain tumor.

Dixie

Emily

Emily was born in October 2006 and was a delightful, energetic, fun cat. She was euthanized on October 13, 2017, due to blood clots in her lungs but remained energetic right until the end.

Franklin

Franklin was adopted in June 2004 and had badly infected eyes. Within a few weeks after having his eyes removed, he passed away suddenly. The vet said probably the infection in his eyes spread to his heart.

Gracie

Gracie came to The Magoo Room early in 2016 and stayed with us until September 2016 when she had to be euthanized due to an untreatable growth in her mouth. Not only was Gracie a beautiful cat, but she was affectionate as well. We fondly called her the Velcro cat!

Jonesy

Jonesy’s family had fallen on hard times and brought him to us in November 2012. His medical issues were addressed as best we could and we loved him. In June 2013, his family was able to take him home again.

Kitty

Kitty was a calm, sweet boy who came to us December 2, 2008 at the age of 14.5. He died a year and a half later of renal failure.

Kitty Boy

Kitty Boy (a.k.a. Mr. Bright Eyes) was a sighted geriatric polydactal who spent his last year with us. He just plain worn out. (April 1993 – August 2008)

Layla

Layla was found in Pitt county when she was 10-plus years old in 2013. She was euthanized within a year due to multiple issues.

Magoo

Magoo, the first blind kitten that we rescued, came to us in 1999. She quickly taught us that sight need not be important to live a happy life. She became the inspiration for The Magoo Room. In July 2004, Magoo died at the age of five due to liver disease. Her legacy lives on through our work in The Magoo Room.

Maxine

Maxine, renamed Maxie, was 12 years old when her owner passed in 2013. The owner's body was not found for three days, and Maxie was found in his lap. What loyalty! She passed a year and a half later when a liver tumor ruptured.

Mimi

Mimi joined the Magoo kitties in January 2005, supposedly deaf, blind and brain damaged. Previous rescue groups probably thought she was blind due to the way she lowered her head when approached. She was NOT blind (or deaf) but probably abused in the past. She died of cancer in 2008.

Minnie

Minnie was one of the sweetest cats to come to The Magoo Room. Her loss due to intestinal inflammation was difficult. June 2006 – December 2015.

Mootang

Mootang, a majestic Persian cat, came from another rescue at the age of 14 in 2006. He was with us for two years before passing of kidney disease.

Mordecai

Mordecai, a decided favorite of Barbara’s, was four to eight years old when he joined the group in March 2006. He had been hit by a car and left for dead for three days. After he came to us and had much veterinary care, Mordecai was blind, incontinent, and had no tail. He died in 2009 of a bladder tumor.

Nubbin

Nubbin was born February 16, 2006, came to me in 2007, and had to be euthanized December 2016 due to intestinal cancer.

Nutter Butter

Oracle

Oracle, age one, was with us for only two months when he died of unknown causes in March, 2005.

Paula

Paula was surrendered to us in February 2008 by a family who could not care for her. She was almost 16 years old and a spitfire who became a sweetheart. She died in September due to a spongy mass at the back of her throat.

Peanut

Peanut, age 14, was taken from our local Animal Control in October 2004, where she had become depressed. She slept on a family bed and grew pampered and loved, but due to arthritis she was quite inactive. In November 2007 her tired body gave out.

Peepers

Peepers was our very first Magoo Room resident in 2003. She was an affectionate sweet-natured cat, both with humans and other cats. Peepers died Thanksgiving Day 2010 of a fatal arrhythmia.

Pittsburg

Pittsburgh joined our clan in April 2006. He was a gorgeous long hair tiger who loved calm and quiet. He was put down in June 2010 when his body could no longer make red blood cells. Pittsburgh, originally thought to be 16-18, was determined to be 12 years old.

Princess

At the age of 16, Princess was surrendered to us by a family and got along well with the other cats. Within seven months she had to be put down. She had some liver issues, but basically her body wore out.

Rain

Rain was a three-year-old cat who had complications during a neuter & declaw surgery and became blind. The rescue he was with did not recognize that he also had seizures, and left untreated Rain became more and more brain damaged. He was only with us a short time before he had to be euthanized, as his quality of life was very poor.

Reba

Reba lived to be 17 years old. She had been tearfully surrendered by an owner who physically could not care for her any longer in 2005. Reba had multiple health issues and was not strong enough to be housed with other cats. Renal failure affected her ability to walk and she was put down peacefully in 2009.

Ruby

Ruby came to The Magoo Room in early 2009 at age 11 and was with us for six years. She had multiple health issues and eventually had to be euthanized late 2015.

Sable

Sable was only with us for a matter of weeks in 2006 when she had to be put down due to encephalitis.

Sasha

Sasha was a local cat who came to us in 2013 at age 10-12 with a cyst in her kidney, which was eventually drained. She was sweet, affectionate, and easy going, but renal issues took her a year later.

Sasha ll

Sasha II, age 15-19, came to us in 2015 with teeth, ear, thyroid, and kidney issues. She was euthanized September 30, 2015, when she became weak and stopped eating.

Sassy

Sassy had a lovely, calm nature, and a sweet voice. He was a big, gregarious fellow who came to us in 2011. In late 2012 we lost him to renal failure.

Skippy

Skippy came to us at age 15 in June 2012. She had a deep, ready purr and earned the name Miss Cranky Pants because of the sound of her well-intended meow. We lost her in 2013 due to a blood clot in her lung.

Snowflake

In March 2017 at the age of 19 Snowflake was euthanized due to urinary issues.

Sparkle

Sparkle was due to be put down the day after she came to us in 2001 . She came to us overweight, with renal issues and did not choose to be housed with many other kitties. She enjoyed the company of just Tabitha until renal failure took her life.

Spencer

Spencer came to us in October 2006 at the age of four. He was a delightful, affectionate kitty who loved exploring. He was euthanized on September 28, 2016, due to pancreatitis, IBS, and epilepsy.

Sterling

Stranger

Stranger, age two, climbed a fence and came in our cat door in 2011, much to my surprise. We made sure he had all his vet care, and eventually traded him to another rescue for Valiant, a more age-appropriate cat for the Magoo Room.

Tabitha

Tabitha (a.k.a. Her Highness or Grandma Kitty) came to us in 2009 at age 17 with bright eyes and a spring to her step, which lasted until she was finally euthanized four months after her 20th birthday party. She had lived well with renal failure for three years.

Tinkerbell

Tinkerbell came to us in 2005, a very sweet, delicate cat who had lost her owner. We lost her three years later due to a mass in her head.

Terri

Terri is a South Carolina cat who joined us in April 2006. She had failing eyesight and finished going blind at The Magoo Room. On September 24, 2013, she was diagnosed with lung cancer and died on the way to the vet the next day.

Valiant

Valiant had a rough start as she began life with a hoarder. She eventually came to us and was loving, affectionate and enjoyed the other kitties. After a few months, she was adopted by a delightful family with children. (See Stranger’s story to understand why, of all our kitties, Valiant was placed for adoption.)

Webster

Webster started the New Year 2012 with us at the age of 9-11, and was both blind and deaf. He was in poor condition when he arrived and it seemed whenever we could conquer one problem another popped up. He was euthanized in May.

Zorky

Zorky (a.k.a. Gizmo) lived to be almost 19 years old when he finally wore out in 2011. When he came to The Magoo Room in 2009 at age 17 he was a tall, long, loving cat who wanted to be close to people. He was a delightful old soul.
